Intel made its official launch of its 3rd generation Xeon Scalable processor based upon its 10nm process for enterprise and data center applications.  The product line can provide up to 40 cores per processer and up to 2.65 times higher performance gain over a 5-year-old system.  The platform supports up to 6 terabytes of system memory per socket, up to 8 channels of DDR4-3200 memory per socket and up to 64 lanes of PCIe Gen4 per socket.

The new processors feature a flexible architecture that includes integrated AI acceleration with Intel DL Boost technology and advanced security capabilities to protect data and application code.  The company says that they have shipped more than 200,000 units for revenue in the first quarter of 2021 with broad industry adoption across all market segments.

The announcement included Intel’s 2nd generation platform of Optane persistent memory and storage (its 200 series).  Intel’s Optane DIMMS can provide more cost-effective storage for the DDR4 sockets.  During the industry analyst briefing on the new processors Intel spoke about progress with its Optane storage and persistent memory products.  As shown in the image below they adoption of Optane memory in multiple industries and running many different workloads.
